Making Sense Of Syria
As a retired hack at the everyday end of the business, I read with great admiration an illuminating and well-written report from behind rebel lines by Martin Chulov in the Guardian 9.9.13:
Wish I’d written it.
The way I read it, the militaries of the west were probably planning to take out some Al Qaeda capacity under cover of punishing the regime, and even some of the Syrian opposition think that would have been a good idea. But now it’s too late – which raises fresh questions about trying to make war by democratic vote. Except for the odd illumination like this article, most of us haven’t a clue what is happening Over There. Some things have to be left to the professional warriors?
