SHEDNOTES 69: Un good law

The Shed is not very French, on the whole, but does like the sound of their rule that all bakeries must shut one day a week, which gives traditional family bakeries a tiny edge in their battle with factories working day and night. The Shed is sad to read that this clever old law is probably doomed, under pressure from the supermarkets and free trade economists. If they don’t want it, we should have it.
