SHEDNOTES 80: And an employment policy to discuss

The Shed has been catching up on House Of Cards, in which Kev is going for glory with AmWork, a plan to create 10 million “real, paying jobs”.
The jobs would be created in national infrastructure investment and the armed services and by collaboration with the private sector. The money – 500 billion dollars – would come from an end to “entitlements”, such as dole, health care and pensions.
The Shed is willing to bet that a proposal like that would get support from grass-roots Conservatives, Old Labour and UKIP. However, it would probably start a few riots. Be interesting to see how it plays out for President Frank Underwood, although Shed betting is that he will trade in the whole idea, under party pressure, in exchange for a few more years in power, like any of ours would.

fornow …
