SHEDNOTES 100: Rescuing a smartphone

The Shed clipped a letter from Dominic Fahr to Computeractive magazine 1-14.4.2015:
I’ve travelled almost everywhere and I have dropped phones in the sea, in rivers, into a fish tank and down the loo. Each time I have just removed the battery, given the phone a shake … then shoved it into a bowl of uncooked rice. Within 24 hours the rice has absorbed every drop.”
The trick doesn’t always save the battery, said Mr Fahr, but replacing that was cheaper than buying a new phone.
